A Conversation for FANTASY FOOTBALL - Season Seven - "The Summertime Special"

It was a semi-serious proposition.

I've always thought the format was a bit - well - rubbish, to be honest.

I think it would be possible to base a competition along the rules of a 'real' Fantasy Football league, only instead of an auction (obviously impossible to get everyone online together), you can hold a closed auction, where sealed bids are submitted to the league chairman. It'd involve a couple of hour's work for the chairman, sorting out who is in whose team, and then the participants could chip in by totting up each other's scores on a weekly basis. All the chair has to do then is keep the table updated.

Transfers and whatever are quite easy to do via the forum system.

I'd be quite happy to organise something like this, mostly because I'm crap at Fantasy Football anyhow.smiley - biggrin

I must admit I'm not familiar with that format, but if you think it's a go-er then be my guest. I'd suggest opening up another conversation thread off of the Season Seven page to guage other people's reactions, as I'd guess that the people here present will be your core market.

As for my timings for the rest of the season and beyond.

The current season comes to an end in week 12 with the friendlies played on Saturday 2nd August -- 9 Premiership teams in a list of 10 games just to let you know what's coming up smiley - winkeye

I'm then having a week off and will launch the next season of Fantasy Football with the start of the Premiership proper on the 16th August and run this one until the end of November / beginning of December. My plan is to start coding up the page for this season eight in the next week or so, and then to start advertising for new players at the end of the month -- ads in the Post; on the Virtual Supporters club page; a few personal representations to old players / those I've seen around with a bent for football and of course Askh2g2 smiley - smiley

As I've said above, I have no objections to you giving an alternative variant a go. But what I would ask is that in your advertising that you don't jeopardise what we've got going here. I really do enjoy running this competition, and would be upset to see it killed off before its time had come.

Well, that's my problem - I didn't really want to tread on your patch, so to speak.

However, if my format is a goer, it should be done from (near) the start of the season.

OK, thank you smiley - smiley

I'll also start a thread to see if there are any suggestions as to changes that could be made to the current format we've got running here.
