WEEK SIX
GreyDesk Started conversation Jun 14, 2003
Please note - we have another EARLY closing date for this selection due to one game being played on FRIDAY evening -- albeit being played on the other side of the Atlantic, so the closing time isn't that much earlier than usual.
Anyway, the matches...
Silkeborg IF v Brondby
Mallorca v Malaga
River Plate v Gimnasia La Plata
Toronto Croatia v Hamilton Thunder
Stabaek v Rosenborg
...these are being played in Denmark, Spain, Argentina, Canada and Norway respectively.
The closing date for all selections is 1am on Saturday 21st June.

OK - I'll get my predictions in early this time to prevent controversy and making-up-of-first-scorers...
Silkeborg IF 1-3 Brondby (Wieghorst)
Mallorca 0-1 Malaga (Manu - Well, they seem to score quite a lot )
River Plate v Gimnasia La Plata (Cavenaghi)
Toronto Croatia 2-0 Hamilton Thunder (Dikic )
Stabaek 2-3 Rosenborg (Nevland)

WEEK SIX - AAAAARGH!!!! OH NO NOT AGAIN
GreyDesk Posted Jun 15, 2003
It seems that the Argentina Football site -- http://www.futbolargentino.com.ar/torneos/clau-03/tc-f17.html -- is lying to me about the fixtures for weekend of the 21st/22nd June.
***River Plate is NOT playing Gimnesia La Plata that weekend***
When I checked with the Gimnesia site -- http://www.gelp.com.ar/ -- they said that they would be playing some side by the name of Arsenal (no not that one, but another one that's not based in North London). And the soccerage site confirmed that River Plate would next be playing Racing -- http://www.soccerage.com/en/02/00208.html#nextM
I'm not sure what to do
I think in the short term I will exclude this Argentina match from the selection, and get back to you all later with an alternative match.

Because Rugby League scores are, by nature, harder to predict than football scores, would it make sense to award points for the correct _winning margin_, rather than the correct score?

I'm accutely aware of the farcical nature of the last two weeks. But in fairness I can't be blamed for external websites deciding that they've got the details wrong and changing them.
What I shall do for forthcoming weeks is to check with a second or even third source for confirmation - ie more work for me
I'm not going to monkey around with spread scoring for Rugby games that go into the mix. I don't see the point as the correct score is the one thing so few people get right anyway.

WEEK SIX - Second Revised Selection
Ormondroyd Posted Jun 19, 2003
Just to remove any possible ambiguity, my nominated scorer for the Silkeborg v Brondby game is Mattias Jonson of Brondby.
I thought I'd better clarify that after the way Kiltedjedi gave his scorer as 'Jonson (Brondby)' - although, as far as I can make out, Silkeborg have a Jensen but not a Jonson.
We don't want any more confusion around here, do we?
WEEK SIX - Second Revised Selection
GreyDesk Posted Jun 19, 2003
I can't wait for this season to end, and then I can go back to dealing with sensible sounding named players and clubs like van Nistelrooy and Aston Villa...
WEEK SIX - Second Revised Selection
egon Posted Jun 19, 2003
Oh, GD- the norweigan league- could we have a Lyn game sometime? It's just I really want to predictEldar Hadzimehmedovic as first scorer...
