"Who gets an email in the case of a collaborative entry? If everybody on the list does, then the invitation back still applies in the case of a Flea Market rescue."
Everyone gets on on collaborative entries, but only the 'edited by' when picked from PR - which is why I'd like to see entries picked under the original author if possible - that way they may come back before it gets to the FP.

kelli - ran 2 miles a day for 2012, aiming for the same for 2013 Posted Mar 6, 2006
I see the Papaya marinated steak entry has been picked in the middle of a discussion of its suitability for the guide
I guess that whoever picked it felt that it was suitable, (have no problems with that) but it does highlight some of what has been said here about scouts picking stuff that is still under discussion.

Kelli, as far as I have understood, it has been recommended two or three days ago, and MJ's question about suitability for the EG was rased by Reef's comments on the other thread this morning. And anyway, I still think this is more than just a recipe, and who ever said recipes weren't to be included ?

I agree B'El, but I think there was significant overlap with the other entry. There isn't anything to stop 'just' recipes going in to the guide anyway.
I have no particular beef () with this entry, it just seemed to highlight one of the things we've been talking about here, that is all.
How do you know it was picked some days ago?

Not picked, but recommended- my email gave the date of recommendation, and in the <./>SubEditors-Process</.> it clearly says that it takes about a day from recommended to accepted.

I've seen them go through much quicker than a day though, I read that as a bit of expectation setting - I hadn't clocked that you were an author of it so didn't know you'd seen the email so that explains it

There definitely are plain recipe entries in the Edited Guide. I've written one.

What cookies are those, Reefgirl? You haven't any entries in PR at the moment.

Give it a try and see what happens, Reef!
I remembered something very interesting. When my first entry went through PR back when I'd just signed up, I remember thinking that it hadn't taken very long - two weeks, maybe. Succeeding entries have taken much longer, possibly because I write entries that are of less interest to the general population, or because people feel my mechanics are good so they don't need to come correct my spelling and grammar. Either way, as a newbie I got through much faster than I have as an 'old hand' - so perhaps that puts pot to the favouritism theory.

You get an email when your entry hits the FP? Unless I gave a defunct email address...I've never gotten one. Haven't even seen some of my entries on the FP.
Just a mathematical question:
(# of scouts)x(2 per month)=(number of entries that can be picked each month)
IS
>, <, or = to (number of entries in PR for over 3 weeks)
??

Regarding the FP, I would rather it stay at three entries per day but it change every day, including Saturday and Sunday because at the moment, the three on the FP change on a Friday and are still there at 9.00-9.30am on a Monday morning, which is a hefty chunk of the week.
Possibly a rota could be arranged between the Curators, to change the entries (chosen by the Eds or from the "polished" list) on the FP on a Saturday and Sunday, to save the Eds moaning about unpaid overtime
I enjoyed seeing your Greek Temples blob all weekend Gnomon, however that slice of cake for three days on the FP a few weeks back really bugged me.

Gnomon my cookie recipe isn't in PR, I have thought about putting it in tho

Nice idea Annie, but Curators don't have access to change the Front Page (currently....)

It's very unlikely that any volunteers will be given access to the Front Page - there is too much that can go wrong!
Even the staff bugger it up from time to time.

What's so special about this famous cookie recipe?
If the BBC wants to pay me to mess around with the front page, I wouldn't object. I kinda think that that's the least of the PR problems, though.

THere are PR problems?
Peer Review is in better shape than it has ever been, churning out high quality entries. It's the one part of h2g2 that really works.
I'm sure there's still room for improvement, but I wouldn't go as far as saying there are problems at the moment.

Despite a not-so-recent whinge in my journal I have to agree with Gnomon. PR can seem a little frustrating when you think you've covered everything and then something *else* is suggested but, ultimately, PR's there to make entries the best they can be. I think that recently there has been a shift back to the researcher's idea of what their entry should be rather than an attempt to homogenise everything.
I say this with the grand total of three edited/recommended entries and am currently a bit biased (or, frankly, chuffed) so might not be best placed to offer an ojective, balanced opinion.

(even though I have a "recipe" in the edited guide,I think a bit of information and background about the recipe,or the ingredients or something a little extra wouldn't go amiss)
I know that I have been moaning a lot about PR but I have to say that on the whole we are now getting better quality entries on the FP (some spelling/grammar issues notwithstanding. I nearly had a fit the other day when I read "pled" as the past tens of "to plead" on the FP the other day - but I can't remember which entry it was)
However, I think some issues we have raised here are still very valid. such as:
number of entries per day and length of rotation
picking when the entry is still being discussed (and I can see that this is always going to be a problem as long as the actual picking is done in secret, using the papaya marinade as an example again)
picking "really worthwhile" Elvised entries, when others are pickable with an active writer
(sorry, I'm still because I got my silly thing picked! )
oh, and now of course I feel waaaay guilty about it
I also feel that the PR page should be updated to say that grammar, punctuation, spelling and typos definitely _should_ be cleared up during the PR process.
and for our next project: publicising the Writing Workshop a tad more!!!
