pwb-Val-Dwa-Fem-Law died in the Dungeons of Doom on level 6 [max 7]. Killed by a touch of death.
How often do you meet an arch-lich on dungeon level 6, eh?
(by the way, it's pwb rather than Angril 'cause I'm playing it on the computer society server)

And yesterday I bumped into an ogre with a wand of death on level 13...
The annoying thing is, I could have wished for a grey dragon scale mail since I had a magic lamp, a couple of potions of water and a coaligned altar.

Oops, yes some form of magic protection is *very* high on my priority list at the outset of a Nethack game.

Another wand of death and again I could have got GDSM.

Well, I had an uncursed magic lamp and a potion of holy water, but I decided to bless some scrolls of identify instead. Which paid off, as one of them identified pretty much everything I had, short of the gems
Probably my highest score so far. Got down to Medusa, but decided to do the Quest first. I wonder if I'll ever get past her
Oh, and hello again, this is my first post in over a year I think

Hello again
You seem to be going through the same learning curve I went through. I've ascended twice at Nethack and one thing I've learnt is that eventually you will be able to identify everything if you stay alive for long enough. Hence staying alive is always the prime consideration. If you have the chance, get GDSM, it's possibly the most useful item in the game. Must say though that if I get the chance I prefer a cloak of magic protection with Silver dragon scale mail Magic protection + reflection, very handy for surviing both death and desintegration rays
You'll get past Medusa - and then the game *really* begins
