Dear Old Dad picked up a copy of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy on a business trip. Some of his coworkers were talking about it, so he gave it a try.
I guess I was all of ten at the time -- it was the first book he ever gave me that wasn't written by Ian Fleming as I recall -- and I thought it was good.
I picked it up again a few years later, and read it every few years for 15+ years now. Adams had the most amazing wit and view of the world. Probably why I'm such an odd character now...
