A Conversation for Talking Point: How Did You Discover the HHGTTG?
I admit I was uncertain at first...

Well, a couple of years back, when the serie had just been translated to Norwegian (it was a crappy translation by the way) it was all the rage - everywhere you would see the books, and I was just generally turned off it, because the media gave me the wrong impression - they made it sound like it was some philosophical blockbuster.
But eventyally, my mother bought me a copy.
And frankly, I didn't go crazy over it - I blame the translation. I forgot about it completely, (though several times the name Arthur Dent popped up in my mind and I couldn't remember why) until I watched a random English documentary where they happened to quote a line from the book, and I thought it sounded hilarious - and by then I had found out that in most cases, it's best to read books in their intended language - and I did, and I loved it! I bought the whole serie plus all other Douglas Adams books I could get hold on, groaned a bit when I saw the TV serie, and permanently loaned the radio series-CDs from a friend of my mother.
Thinking about how hooked I am today, when I first actually gave up on the book!
