It was a dark and stormy day...

...at work. Programs wouldn't compile. When they compiled, they blew up upon execution, or went into an "infernal" loop. Consternation and confusion and despair all about. I was gently complaining/ ranting/crying on a colleague's shoulder, when he gave me a knowing grin and said "42".
"Huh?" said I , slow on the uptake.
"What you need," said he, "is a nice hitchhike around the galaxy. Start at your favorite bookstore."
The rest, as they say, is history. (So is the job.)
