You got me curious. Might want to fix the part where they're talking and you run the 2 quotes together into one paragraph. It throws the reader.
So, the war was going pretty good and then....
Augh! You can't leave it there, you have to finish it!!! I gotta read this!
good start.

Blimey, didn't expect anything... OK I promise I'll finish this off by the end of Feb, even if I have to make up the end from scratch again....
good start.

Well that's the first thing I promised to do when I joined the site, back in '99, sorted, what's next....

I like, a lot!
But it still feels like you've got a lot more to tell in this scenario - how about 'extracts from "Space Farts"' - that would attract tonnes of readers - or the infighting that goes on on their editorial staff (think Drop the Dead Donkey with scifi)
Slarf could get a love interest, and everything (imagine the everything... appendages everywhere!), then right at the end the closing scene is Marvin surveying the immediate aftermath of the war, which was caused by the staff of the magazine, neatly bringing it all full circle in some futile cause/effect time loop thingy.
By the way (shameless plug alert), have you come across my entry on NaNoWriMo? A1325468 if you're interested...
