No Problem. I have edited and added to the entry a few times since the comments i've been having, so Check out the new edited version... I know it's still not complete, and I haven't added the bits that your lot have suggested yet (they're saved on my home computer ready for adding and a little editing themselves) But once i get round to it all, Cheers for all your help!

I'd say a little more structure wouldn't hurt. Even without converting to GuideML, you can add headers, using capitals or ___underlines or somesuch.
As anhaga indicated, you could incorporate the entries A278679, A287994 and get a top notch entry from it -- just make sure to give credits where they are due.

Like most people in this thread, I beleive this needs work (splitting off into headers, taking out the comments like "please post below if you have suggestions", etc). Also, you need to get rid of the smiley ( I think it is) 'cos the Italics and Subs don't like them and won't let them into the Edited Guide.

Cheers all. When I have a spare minute, i'll make a few changes. I'm keeping the suggestion thing going though, sorry.

Hi Fish - nice to see you're getting stuck into Peer Review like I suggested - although I didn't envisage this being entered without a few changes. Still, I think a beginner's guide to the Welsh Language is a great idea and should pass the mods...

This entry needs a lot of work before it is suitable to be picked.
Firstly, it needs a pronunciation guide right at the start. Since Welsh pronunciation bears little resemblance to the English use of the letters, nobody will have a notion how to pronounce the phrases, so you must include a guide.
Secondly, all that stuff about Welsh being or not being the oldest language is inaccurate, contradictory and out of place in a crash course. Welsh is of course a modern language which has its roots in an ancient language, just as English is.
Finally, the claim that the Anglo-Saxons did not invade England is highly controversial, so it should not be included as a throaway comment in this entry.

I'm not Welsh, but live near Wales, and I was told the above is:
Clan-fair-puth-ging-guth-goth-gerrith-win-drob-wuh-clanty-silly-oh-go-go-goh
but like I said, I'm not Welsh myself (although I can count up to 99 in Welsh...) so I could be wrong!

I've misplaced this thread for a bit, apparently.
In post 24, Sir Bossel mentions that credit should be given where credit it due. Does this mean that the author of posts 12 and 13 from this thread, which have been incorporated virtually verbatim into the entry are due some credit? After all, those two posts now make up about a third of the text of the entry. (don't bother clicking through the backlog: posts 12 and 13 were mine)
I also have to agree with Gnomon about the rather dubious suggestion that the Anglo-Saxon's only hung about the shores: it just doesn't wash without a he@$ of a lot more evidence than just unnamed Archaeologists.

I have to say I've been struck by the number of Chinese Welsh speakers out here
Pysgodyn, I thought I'd give you a hand with the pronunciation part, since I will eventually get round to a full version for Welsh...
c - always /k/; f - /v/; ff and ph - /f/; g - always /g/; rh - voiceless /r/ (you could skip that); u - /i/ as in tea (roughly); w - /u/ as in 'too' or /w/; y - like Southern English 'u' in 'butter' in non-final syllables, or as Welsh 'u' in final ones.
Welsh words don't contain v or x either.
I think that's the minimum you'd need...

Hi, Fish!
When youre working on this, could you think about the title?
'A Crash Course to Welsh' sounds wrong - shouldn't it be either 'An Introduction to Welsh' or 'A Crash Course in Welsh'?

A crash course to Welsh certainly sounds better than to welsh, because it's written IN ENGLISH and it's ABOUT Welsh. A CRASH COURSE OF WELSH, however, MIGHT sound better.

Don't know anything about the subject meself, but it looks like it could still use some polish. But Fish hasn't posted since mid-June.
