That's what Wodehouse and Tom Sharpe does for me. Never read Bryson. What are the plots like?

He's a travel writer, so there aren't any plots as such. Its all autobiographical. Notes from a Small island is about his trip round the UK on foot and by Public transport, that he made as a farewell before moving back to the States. He has a very unique take on the British, being an american who has spent a long time here. One of my favourite bits is a description of his falling down a steep hill - that probably says more about me than the book, though...

Made in America is basically about the american way of life. He also did one that was about small town america and one called Walk in the Woods which was about walking the appalchian trail.

David Niven. I love his gentle english humour. The stories he tells are wonderful. Anyone else read it?

SPINY (aka Ship's Cook)

Too obvious to suggest Garrison Keillor as well? Recommendations: anything.

David Niven? You mean the dead british actor of the same name? I didn't know he wrote novels.
