I recently read The Forever War. Interesting ideas on how going to war changes peoples outlook and how they then can't re-integrate with the rest of society. Based in part on his own experiences in Vietnam the blurb says.
Have we had Huxley and J. Verne? (as you did say Wells' name)

I'll keep those in mind, thanks.
Shops in Holland are not very good at stocking the English versions of SF-books.

Well if you're ever over in London, just shout and I'm sure that a few of the characters here could be persuaded to meet face to face
(not sure about all the manic grinning that would have to go on though )

Hello
Please could you list a few books of SF short stories you'd recommend? I am just in the mood to read shorts instead of novels - it would be a welcome break from drawn-out prose.
Sorry
Thanks
Hope

um well my suggestions would be:
consider her way and others - john wyndham
second chance at eden - peter f hamilton
women as demons - tanith lee
the bicentennial man - isaac asimov
expedition to earth - arthur c clarke
i don't read a lot of shorts, but those are the ones that come to mind

Or you could get one of the many short story compilations and start from there.
