How about how much better books when re-written? the prime example (and I know the author agree's with this) 'The Carpet People' by Terry Pratchett. Having been lucky enough to be able to borrow a copy I can honestly say that the re-write it is way way better, but are there any others out there?

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
