h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Hi Everyone, I'm Terran. In the near future I will be using this thread to post further additions to the story. But for now, as requested by the nice people at CAC, I am going to explain why my story is called "The 168th Greatest Story in the Universe - A Tribute" and not "The 169th Greatest Story in the Universe - A Tribute" or something like it.

Well when it was first started it was called simply : "Terry Horowitz". Which was to be honest fairly naff, and was only there because I couldn't of another title. So I toyed with alot of other ideas and came up with something even naff-er, "Terry Horowitz's Adventure". I was struggling.

Then I went away for a few minutes, and thought to myself why not (to get attention mostly) call it the "greatest story in the universe", and then I remembered that it was not very likely that what I would actually write the greatest story in the universe. So I thought well what about "the 168th greatest story in the Universe" (I'll explain 168 in a minute). But then I thought about all the great songs that have been written, and are yet to be written in the Universe as it is a very big place, and would be unlikely that I would actually get to 168 in overall listings.

So I thought(I do a lot of thinking) why not write a tribute to "The 168th greatest story in the Universe" (As I had been listening to the Tenacious D song. If you've heard the song you'll know what I'm talking about). Yeah that seems fair enough, not too boastful. But why 168 I hear you say.

Well basically it is a number I see a lot, I see it in courseworks, and on buses. In maths problems there always seems to be a 168 answer somewhere in there. Oh and the fact I pass it on my way out of my house every day might have something to do with it as well. Yes its my house number, but its more than that. Its a number I notice all the time. Which is strange for a number like 168, which seems fairly random. And the fact that there aren't 168 houses on our street seems a bit odd as well.

Though I suppose it is a number which is very familiar to me, so if anyone is going to notice it, its going to be me isn't it. Just why does it have to appear so often... and this is creepy, something just occured to me. I have just worked our that 42 times 4 is 168. Ahhh!!

Anyway, it is a very bizarre number for me.

should be "great stories" not "great songs"
