I would put on some more refinements, but my modem is not working and I haven't had any chance lately to add the changes I've made to the version on hy hard drive.

Hiya
First of all I'm a Tamora Pierce fan, and have been for years. I have this annoying habit of having to have complete series, which can be expensive. Therefore I have all 23 of her published books. I like them because they're simple, easy stories to read, with good winning out over evil. They also had very strong female role models, which there are very few of (ie ones that 'actually work for a living' rather than being pop stars etc.)

With the actual article I really think that any opinions needed to be more at the end. Ie
Intro
Plot synopsis
this with main stages, skinners, house, journey etc. like you have done already
Characters
maybe a bit more detail on these, i knew who you were talking about, but does a person not having read the books know they all are?
I also disagree about the character development, Daine come to realise her predudices about stormwings were shallow and allows them to stay in the Mortal Realms (something she would never have done even at the end of the 3rd book).
Strengths and weaknesses
This is where you put your opinions, but in fancy writing.
"This reasearcher feels/Readers may feel that the relationship of Daine and an older man is inappropriate in books aimed at this age group" Though personally the fact that he was an older man never bothered me at that age (or this 21). The fact that all of her characters have sex with people that they are in love with seems a really good moral outlook at the moment. Sorry digressing...

I would love to help with reviews/descriptions of any of the books if you wanted (gets me away from contact lens mathematics!).

Although he will diss me for it (speaking for him), I have to tell people that our modem at home died in December, and he is back at school, where teachers monitor their internet access, so he hasn't had the chance to do anything on the review for a good long time! He will when he can because he cares about it - he has Mikey's comments saved as a txt document to refer to...
He's done a review of what *I* consider to be a vastly superior book, part of a series by Catherine Fisher - the book is 'The Relic Master' and the review is on his space. Hope you-all like it!

I have all of the Song Of The Lioness, and all of the Immortals, so that's one reason I feel so... So... Tha... Disappointed.

Anyway, I think you are giving Tamora Pierce too much credit, in terms of deep and meaningful themes and stuff. Try reading war poetry by Wilfred Owen. It's equally devoid of... It's equally morally and emotionally bankrupt, if you know what I mean.

The relationship between Daine and Numair. It makes me sick. The author wanted Daine to end up with someone, but she didn't set it up properly. It comes across as rushed, that's why he pounces suddenly, in a way that would warrant a painfully swift and messy death from any selfrespecting teenage girl.

How's the article going? The article still seems to contain a few first person references and I think that in its currently form its unsuitable. Are you going to be doing some work on this article to move it forward?

Jimmy -- I think if you're going to be complaining about how things are set up across the series, you really need to have the entry be about the whole series, and not just about the last book.

Frankly, I think it would be better that way, regardless. It seems a little weird to write an entry about the fourth book in the series rather than just writing an entry about books 1-4 and be done with it.

If you're worried about the amount of work, I'd be willing to work with you on it.

Still waiting on Jimmy's modem, are we? I can understand computer troubles. *sigh* I really would like to see something happen with this one, though -- it's becoming one of the "ancient" here in PR.

In the meantime, I've written this (A1002547) and shoved it in Peer Review -- it's a summary and review of one of the other quartets that's related to the one this book comes from.

Possibly, a look at that entry might give you a clearer idea about what it is people are saying here when they use the word *balanced* -- in that entry I do mention which books I think are better than the others, and what it is about some of the books that I think makes them less appealing. But my opinions about the books are not the main focus of the entry, and I tried as much as possible to incorporate other people's opinions as well as my own.

Of course, that entry is still far from perfect, so if anyone from this thread would like to go and comment in that thread, especially while we wait for Jimmy's return, it would be most welcome -- the thread is over at F48874?thread=267385

FYI, this one is in the top 10 oldest entries in Peer Review at the moment.

If Jimmy's not interested in working on this one again in the near future, I'm thinking that maybe the time has come for him to consider withdrawing it from Peer Review for the time being -- he can always resubmit it when he has more time to work on it.

What do you think, Jimmy -- you out there?
