I know better now. Large columbines are perfectly natural, and can come in colors other than red (I have a blue one in my yard now). It's amazing the new things one can learn from time to time.

These two are in my garden but you can also find them in cracks on the sidewalk.

Columbines are lovely! Coincidentally I saw ones like your pink-white ones just a couple of weeks ago - they are eyecatching, as the flowers usually don't grow quite so upright as they do
Lovely rich purple colour of the ones in the top picture

I found some of the original red columbines at a garden center not far away. I planted it in the Common Area in our park. A squirrel proceeded to dig it up (I got it replanted)

The European Columbine (which I took photos of) is not the same as your native columbine. It seems like our native plant is considerably larger than yours.

Aha! This explains it. Elektra said the stuff in our garden is columbine, but it's a much smaller flower.

I hope to have pictures of mine eventually. I'm making do with single-use cameras until my permanent camera comes, but that keeps getting postponed. It is now expected around July 7. Maybe it won't arrive until next Christmas

The single-use cameras represent a lot of pictures -- up to 54 are in the pipeline, with another 27 due to be brought in on Wednesday. I will post as many as I can on facebook
