Gaslight must have been pretty dim. I like your description.
I'm glad it's brighter now - it's snowing outside.

Tis a pity snow always turns to dirty slush in cities. I'm shocked they ate breakfast in the parlour, maybe it's different in England?

Isn't everything different in England?
This might become highly educational. Thanks for writing it.

Obviously streetlights conntected with a gas tube and burning this way were a great achievement. Before they were used every house owner with a streetlamp at his house had to send someone to pick up oil for the lamp. It was distributed every day.
I read that when the first gas lamp was used at a pharmacy in Vienna even the emperor himself had to go there with his family to see that new kind of light.

It scares the hell out of me, terrible.
(not your story, but the attacks).
When will this ever stop?

We had some snow the other day. It's melted mostly.
