Those apples will never get ripe, now that they've been knocked from the tree. Is this one of Mr. Hoggett's trees? Was he expecting to sell those aples?

I grew up on a piece of land that had been an apple orchard fifty to 70 years earlier. It still had some of the original trees (one of which managed to hang on until last year. It may still be there, for all I know, under new ownership). There was an ancient tree with a huge hole at the base in front of the house my father built. I guess he didn't have the heart to cut it down outright. It got more and more dilapidated. I think it keeled over of its own accord. There was a little white owl in the upper branches when we moved in.

here I go, hijacking another Post entry. I guess my point is that apple trees can hang on a very long time. No one can say for sure how old any of our apple trees were.

True! Butdue to me bloody body bending is a problemand "poop" (can't write shit) is on ground level

Actually, there are non-bend 'pooper scoopers' you can buy now. (Lots of older people have that problem.)

As I already said above I have no idea. When we bought the house the tree was already there and quite old.
