Hot dogs were named by sports cartoonist Tad Dorgan. In 1901, he heard vendors referring to them as dachsund sausages. He drew a scene depicting this, and called them hot dogs.
I don' know how many hot dogs could be made out of one dachsund.

Depends on the process. I guess you would get most sausages by selling the dog and buying sausages with the money. Otherwise you would have to tinker with volume to weight ratios, and consider what the actual meat content in one sausage would be.
