The traditional way is using a slice of ... hmm, what can it be called... rolled cake? A batch of cake batter is spread thin on a big deep baking sheet. And when it's cool, you spread jam (or butter/sugar whip, or chocolate, or...) and roll it up to a log. Which makes rolled cake.

And on that slice, you put the whipped cream, and preferably a canned apricot half (better size than peaches). You can play with chocolate sprinkles, or finely grated chocolate for "pepper", and sugar for "salt".

Mom used to make this for us as the Easter dessert, but I didn't have the energy to bake, and the shop was out of rolled cake, so sponge fries it was

Very improvisation no less. I always thought you needed a jelly roll pan for that but any shallow baking tin will do.
