1807 - the Oystermouth & Swansea Railway was the first horse-drawn passenger-carrying waggonway.
1825 - the first steam railway, the Stockton & Darlington Railway, opened.
1830 - The world's first passenger steam railway, the Liverpool & Manchester Railway opened.
1830 - The first passenger station in Manchester is now the site of the Museum of Science & Industry
1834 - the first oil lamps were provided for First Class passengers.
1840 - Queen Victoria's first Royal Coach.
1844 - The Regulations of Railways Act first required Third Class carriages to be roofed
