The computer is acting strangely tonight. It was unplugged for an hour or so running on batteries only.
A while back I replaced the battery with an off brand battery which does not have the battery life that the original one had. I had to replace the original, however, because it was defective but didn't disclose it's defect until the warrantee had expired. The old battery became overheated and got bloated and fat. It barely fit into the battery casing. So I bought a new one. Not from the Apple store cause those cost like $70 or $80. I found an off brand battery on ebay or something and it has worked just fine, except that the battery life is significantly less than the original equipment.
The off brand battery has performed it's function just fine. I rarely use the computer unplugged so the battery life doesn't make much difference. But tonight the computer became unplugged somehow and was running on batteries only for about an hour. Usually when the batteries are running low, it gives me a message telling me I'd better plug it in. Tonight it did not do that. I just turned itself off.
I plugged it in and turned it back on again. It seems to be working fine except that under the Battery symbol it says "no battery available" and the symbol has an "X" through it, I don't know why this would be. The battery is plugged in properly and it's little lights are on. I hope I don't need another new battery. I think I'll put it to bed and hope it comes on properly in the morning.

Try taking out the battery and putting it back in, if it's still being weird in the morning. Can't hurt, might help. I've "fixed" my husband's laptop a couple times by doing just that.

Yeah, I had a similar incident not so long ago. Taking the battery out altogether for a bit helped.it, when technology starts playing up.
Annoying, isn;t

Gah. This computer has the habit of leaping my cursor key about randomly.

It strikes dread in my heart whenever my computer plays up. It makes my brain scream "Do you know how long it's been since your last backup?!!"

I turned it off and removed the battery. Now it says the battery is fully charged, but "needs service". I think I'll ignore that for now.
