A Conversation for In Memory: Peregrin
Pastey Started conversation Aug 26, 2012
I had the good luck to meet Peregrin on the times that I did.
And the bad luck not to meet him as often as I would have liked.
He was one of the few original characters, and whilst I could not consider him a "real life" friend, I consider him a true life friend.
He will really be missed, and each time I think about him over the last few days, I do actually start crying.

I can only echo what Pastey said. I can't believe such a vital person was taken so suddenly. It's still sinking in, but it's a reminder to us all to appreciate every day, and each other. I've read through his tweets and am glad to know he was having such a good time in America, and how he loved the desert. My heart goes out to his girlfriend, his family, and Bluebottle thanks for writing thisI can just imagine Ian turning up to a fancy dress party wearing a dressing gown

This was so beautifully and movingly written - a wonderful evocation of the way our lives twine in and around people, events, ideas and passions. I am sad to learn of the death of such a long standing lover of the world of Hitchhikers' and my thoughts go out to all Peregrin's friends, family and loved ones.

Oh my, what very sad news, but such a lovely tribute from a true friend.
I first encountered Peregrin at the Hyde Park Meet in May 2000 and several after that. He wrote in such a witty and amusing style. One example was his short lived Paranoia Post, especially the issue about Dutch Researchers trying to poison h2g2 people with vast amounts of alcohol. A489251

He was certainly someone who could instantly make a lasting impression, which is why I remember the first time I met him so distinctly. He had a great way of being himself so that if you spoke to him for 5 minutes, it felt like you'd known him forever. But even if you knew him forever, he always constantly surprised you.
I've never known anyone else quite like him, and I doubt I ever will.

When I joined h2g2 back in 2000 Peregrin was one of my role models.
Peregrin will be remembered as one like those in the songh, Done to soon.

It only seemed appropriate that I revive my h2g2 account to pay my respects to Peregrin. One of the first Researchers I met on h2g2 and in 'real' life, we stayed in touch for years, and he was a near-constant presence on Twitter. Maybe that's why it's come as such a shock. What a guy. My thoughts are with all those who were close to him.

It's good to see you back shrinkwrapped, I just wish it was under better circumstances.

The thing about Peregrin is that although I never met him at a meet, or hung out vvith him on h2g2 really, I knovvv exactly vvho is is and hovv fondly everyone here vvho did thought of him - he really did have an impact.
I am very sorry to hear this. A sad loss.

Sorry to take so long to come and leave a tribute to Peregrin - I lost my log in details and have only just got back in!
I've just posted a new discussion about my memories of him and how he helped Mark Moxon and I start off the sub-editors scheme. He was a great guy and he'll be missed by so many people, including me.
