A Conversation for In Memory: Peregrin
One of the very first Sub-Editors

I was so very sad to hear the news about Peregrin.
I first met Peregrin back in 1999 when h2g2 had very first begun. Mark Moxon, the Editor had been in the job a week and we thought up the Sub-Editor scheme. But who to pick? Mark asked me to suggest some people who were very good writers and lovely people who might consider helping by joining the fledgling scheme.
Peregrin was one of the first people to come to mind. A good writer and generally all round good bloke, we had to use the first Sub-Editors to work with us not only to sub-edit, but also to develop how the scheme worked and as it was all new at the time the people had to be clever and insightful as well as good writers. Peregrin was just the man for the job. He was a delight to work with and great at listening to others as well as inputting good ideas of his own.
It was lovely to meet Peregrin in person at several of the early official meet-ups - I remember him being a great pool player too!
I was so shocked to hear about the accident. We were friends on Facebook so I was following his travels on there.
My thoughts are with his family and friends now. He'll be sorely missed. He was a great guy and it was a pleasure to know him.
I won't forget you Peregrin. xxxx

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
