So I've posted this on Ask ( F19585?thread=8289032 ), but feel free to answer the quesiotn here too.
I was thinking that an interesting thing to do with the challenges at Create is to hook them in with some ‘how to…’ information – we’ve already had a request for a ‘how to…’ one for designing smileys for example. We’d be aiming to focus on h2g2 skills, of course, but also digital media ones more generally.
So, which h2g2 skills would you like to get better at? Which do you think would be useful to or fun for other people to learn? Are you expert at any of these ideas and wouldn’t mind lending a hand, either in designing a challenge or hanging about and giving advice when people attempt them?
Likewise, off-site skills (after all, you never know what Pastey is planning).
Or you could always just email Create: [email protected]
Cheers!

Hi Sol
I have a 'How do I'
How do I antialias an edge on a digital image without making it look blurred round the edge?

I'll have to see if I can come up with any more sensable suggestions... I don't think its already covered in the guide... but how to make home made sex toys err... Obviously I'd have to research this from a theoretical point of view by reading all about it mind...
Have we any up to date how too's, on the latest opperating systems, Windows 7 and the like?
Is there an how to on how to clean a house?
I think we've already got one on how to make coffee, and scrambled eggs, and omelettes, and poached eggs...
and how to be pretentious is I think already covered
how to change a tap washer or change a set of bearings in a washing machine... how to tile... how to paint... how to lay a carpet...
*thinks*

Thanks, Waz! It seems manipulating photos and photography is quite popular.
Heyup 2legs! Those are great How do I? ideas but it seems I have been less than clear (not just to you...).
I'm lokking for ideas of things to include in Create challenges/ shape Create challenges really.
So someone asked if we could have a how do I make smileys challenge - so we could set a challenge which says 'make smileys on the theme of X', except that I don;t have a clue how to do that, so we include a beginners guide (and some advanced tips too) on smiley creation.
Mind you, I'm thinking looking at your list that a challenge for getting people to write how do I _entries_ would also be an excellent idea. I expect to see your home made sex toy one when we do! Anyway, I have filed that idea.

Hi Sol
When I thought about the smilies I sort of thought that maybe it could almost be like a little evening course. I have no idea what it takes to make a smiley. But I thought that maybe we could do it step wise
I thought this would be good because it would also bring people together so would also have that social element to it and also we can help each other as we go along.
So not wanting to put this on anyone shoulders, prehaps someone could draw up say three lesson plans or something, and other researchers who are able to make smilies could also sign up to the thread to advice and guide
Something like that?
