It does make some differnce. they changed a little bit between the two op. systems. a parently they changed teh part that allowed BG to run. although it is odd that i could run quake 1 on XP and a more recent game like Baldurs Gate.....smiley - erm

T.B. Falsename ACE: [stercus venio] I have learned from my mistakes, and feel I could repeat them exactly.

Umm the way I understand it is that ME is the last in the DOS/Win3.1/Win9x series. WP is the latest in the NT series. The DOS/Win series lets software access memory directly, the NT series doesn't. Many games like to access memory directly and therefore will run on the Dos/Win series but wont work on the NT OS's

Quake is also availible for Linux, I think the beta of one version was actually out on Linux before windows. Linux, like NT controls memory access so Quake must have been written to allow the OS to handle memory access.

Titania (gone for lunch)

I seem to remember some game messageboards where complaints of Windows XP being unable to run several games, but I've forgotten the details...smiley - erm

One of the things that I actually did like in Baldur's Gate was exactly the unpredictability of the characters, and how differently things would turn out depending on which ones you had in your gang - I remember loading a saved game a couple of times in an attempt to keep Jaheira and her faithful sidekick from killing one of my evil characthers...smiley - headhurts

I'm currently still deep into Disciples Gold - I'm determined to play the full saga as each and every one of the four races

Oh - and I've added VoodooJoe to the list of members!smiley - ok

Having played both the Baldur's Gate Saga and NWN, I'd have to agree with most others in saying that NWN is pitiful in comparison. The graphics are better, which is basically the only thing it's got going for it. The plot is wooden, the "only-having-two-people-in-a-party" thing is silly and forces the programmers to make fights easier than they logically should be, and the bit about not being able to travel back to places you were before, but only to move forward as the plot dictates--that is INCREDIBLY aggravating. Baldur's Gate is a lot more logical and in-depth as far as Faerun goes, not to mention having a more interesting, complicated, reasonable storyline.
The only really wonderful thing about NWN is the toolset that comes with it--being able to create your own game is great, although the toolset itself has a lot of problems that I won't go into.
So. There's my two cents. (More like a dollar, really. I should get paid a dollar. Wow, if I got paid to offer my unsolicited opinion... I'd be a millionaire already!)

The ketchup effect, it seems - first you get nothing, then nothing, and then all at once!smiley - biggrin

I found Icewind Dale a bit boring compared with Baldur's Gate because the characters would only do as I ordered (more or less independant depending on the settings) while in Baldur's Gate I felt anything could happen... especially depending on how you set up your party - good or evil

actually, for all I know, the Windows compatability thingy may let Shadows of Amn work on Xp... my disc is so beat up it doesn't work on 98 either.
BG1 will work on XP, but you have to give it a minimum install. which means... guess what... the disc-changing! but still.

I like clicking 10 times on everybody's portraits, then they start saying funny things!
Jaheiras is the ufnniest but I don't remember what it was. a few others are pretty funny too.

I actually don't like the NWN toolset much either... its really hard to make a good thing with, especialyl if you don't already know how to script the thing.
