Not sure if you are going to see this since the conversation is quite some days ago...
I cycle everyday for at least one hour and 20mins a day, and living in Oxford means that there is so very much traffic everywhere most of the time.
Cycle lanes on Pedestrian pavement does not work - I am frequently ignored by people when they are actually standing on the cycle lane - I can't leap my bike off onto the road because there are much traffic on the main road - they tend to shout at you or give you long, evil looks...Even if you are going at a fair speed - say about 13miles per hour, say, they still just stand there and stare at you...
Cars are bad - I got hit by a car pulling out suddenly from a side road while I was cycling on the main road...My bike was completely ruined and I still have scars all over my knees and arms even after 3months...
I don't know if you have tried cycling in London but the cyclist and drivers seem to be at war against each other - they are mad...and very rude to each other...
