A Conversation for Talking Point: Bond Gadgets

The Attache Case

As a bit of a Bond purist smiley - geek, my personal favourite has to be the attache case from 'From Russia With Love'. It's nothing flash by modern standards, just a briefcase containing a gun, with hidden ammunition, a throwing knife and 50 gold sovereigns. And, most importantly, a cannister of tear-gas that blows up in the face of anyone else trying to open it. But, it was Bond's first ever gadget, which set the trend for everything that followed, and also marked the first appearance of Desmond Llewelyn's 'Q'.

I was also quite fond of the wrist-mounted dart-launchers that fired poison-tipped or armour-piercing darts in 'Moonraker' - when I was a lad I could think of all sorts of uses for those smiley - smiley

Whatever happend to the old Attaché case, anyway? He used to carry one everywhere he went (well, ok, that's an exederation) but now I don't think I've seen a recent Bond with him carrying it. That thing sure was useful.

As for me, his watches were my favorite. Easilly unnoticed by the villains, and usually had the most useful escape means. The laser, the rope, even bomb control! smiley - smiley

It probably disappeared with Sean Connery. The plain black case was maybe a little too plain for Roger Moore's 'light-blue safari suit' interpretation of Bond smiley - smiley
