You mustn't get carried away... who else would contact HQ with his lighter? Only Bond... I don't think so.
What about the folks from Mission: Impossible, or John Steed and the assorted Avengers? Maybe Napoleon Solo calling UNCLE or John Drake reporting back to NATO (who came two years before Mr Bond even came close to the silver screen)?
Come now... Bond isn't the only gadgeteer around here...
