Community Volunteers - Finding Our Missing Researchers

Post 1

h2g2 Community Editors

Over time, we've lost Researchers. Quite a few are locked out of their old accounts after the migrations during the Single Sign-On and BBCiD changes.

There is a possibility - not guaranteed at this point, but a possibility - that we may be able to reunite those people with accounts.

Do you think there's a way of getting the word out to these people? A lot of them have offline contacts with various Researchers, and it would be interesting to have a list of people that we know would like to come back, only they can't post to let us know!

Obviously even if you know someone's details DON'T post them on h2g2 (I'm sure you know that already but I wanted to say it just in case).

Also there are a lot of people that have a second h2g2 account, but would love to be reunited with their original number - can we draw up a list of these people as well?

-----------

This isn't an easy task. People aren't going to come to you, they'll need you to go to them.

Does anyone want to make a start on this? It's not something I can do myself, but it would be an interesting task for someone who wanted to contribute and help out but isn't sure exactly how!

I don't know U numbers, but names off the top of my head (that I may or may not be able to contact)...

I know there's more, but that's just the off-top-of-head list. I'm going to wait until we're a bit more settled before I go after them, though.

Oh, and I've a secondary account that I (evidently) hadn't bothered to take through SSO that I've tried to use since--I'd like to have the option, anyway, but if it doesn't work, it's no big loss. You can experiment with Flamedancer (U196878) if you like--the email's the same as the one on my PS.

kea ~ Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the western spiral arm of the Galaxy lies a small, unregarded but very well read blue and white website

This is interesting - two researchers, one from pre bbc, re-registering to ask if they can access their old accounts http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/alabaster/F47996?thread=8134935 Is there something already written to direct them to for a fuller explanation? I can't remember

Wandrins doppelganger

I got locked out of my account at BBC ID in the same way. My old account as Wand'rin Star was 96784 and the new one is Wandrins doppelganger 14480806. We set the second one up after months of trying to access the first when I think the Towers finally gave up on me. It's probably connected with having moved countries and changed email addresses. I've met lots of researchers IRL but whether they'd vouch for me... Well, Sho would. smiley - starsmiley - star

Just to put it in the right place - Pegasus - U54754 - would like to come back - see thread link above - or to use her words

"The official 'Bring back Pegasus' campaign is underway! Look forward to being reinstated in all my glory. I'll 'bookmark the page and subscribe to the thread'... kind of. ;o)

I know I had an account around 'Rupert' but have no idea what it was. I know the E-mail account I used to register so...
Any chance to fix it or has it gone to the digital huntinggrounds of the BBCiD ?
