Tube - the being being back for the time being Started conversation Oct 29, 2002
Hi!
Just compiled my code (hehe... GREAT!) and I found that it might be worth adding some more stuff (or would that be approaching overkill?)
Suggestions:
* Participation in Soapbox, House Rules and Moderation threads
* Attendence at official Meet-ups
M+++ I was at the Meet-ups when this site was run by TDV and at each and every one after that
M++ I've been to every post-BBC Meet-up
M+ I've been to more than one official h2g2 Meet-up
M Been there, done that
M- No, they just happen too far away
M-- wouldn't want to meet any of you people IRL
* Same thing for in-official meet-ups
* Years of participation
* Number of h2g2 accounts

More detailed ideas:
Participation in Soapbox, House Rules and Moderation threads
PS++ The Editors cringe when they see my name in those threads, and I don't miss a single one as I've signed up to them
PS+ I really get into one or two of but not *all* of them
PS I take a peek at those if I'm really bored
PS- Boring
PS-- BORING, depressing and not fun at all, I've been there once and won't ever visit them again!
Years of participation
Y++ Been here for more than three years
Y+ Been here for more than two years
Y Been here for more than one year
Y- Been here for less than one year
Y-- Been here for less than half a year
in-official meet-ups
IM++ I've been to more than five in-official Meet-ups
IM+ I've been to more than three in-official Meet-ups
IM I've been to one or two in-official Meet-ups
IM- I've been to no in-official Meet-ups - no-one organises them in my neck of the woods
IM-- Those things are complete nonsense and just opportunities to drink and talk silly stuff about an over-rated website
Number of h2g2 accounts
N++ Without me the site would have to be closed down
N+ Uh, just the normal 7 accouts everyone has
N More than one, but the others are just for silly purposes which I wouldn't like to see associated with my 'real' h2g2 name
N- One. why would I need more?
N-- One. Everyone who uses more is a cheat and a liar!

I think it'd be geekier to have (for example)
M++:-- (I go to most of the official meetups, but I think the unofficial meetups are a waste of time)
I'm not convinced of the value of PS, as phrased, but something similar might work.

I like Lucinda's idea, but shouldn't there be something to indicate involvement in planning rather than just attendence?
For the time spent here, perhaps putting month/year would be better.
Suggestion: h2g2 names
N+++ My name is composed of several, mutable constituent parts indicating rĂ´les on h2g2, recent activities and the time of my next dental appointment / .
N++ I like to change my name to indicate what I'm up to, but not so as to confuse anyone.
N+ I occasionally put something in brackets after my name.
N I guess it's not set in stone.
N- People should choose one and stick with it - anything else is just confusing.
N? You mean I don't have to be "Researcher 199065" forever?

Oh, how about moderation? I'll use a little m, since you probably want the capital for meet-ups.
m++ Can you imagine/remember this place without moderators? The mere thought of that anarchy makes my legs go trembly.
m+ I'm glad we have moderators - it stops people from being offensive.
m I'm not bothered one way or the other.
m- I'd rather we didn't have moderation, it can be annoying.
m-- Moderation really gets on my wick. It is entirely contrary to freedom of speech. I do my best to comment on this at every opportunity. I'm making the "dickhead" sign at the moderator who's reading this right now. W*****s.
m--- Right, that's it, I'm off.
Use of other DNA sites:
d+++ Frankly, h2g2 is a minor concern compared to the delights availiable on [insert DNA site(s) here]
d++ I spend more time on the other sites than I do here.
d+ I regularly contribute to one or two of them.
d I've dabbled, but this will always be my home.
d- Not impressed. They're nowhere near as good as h2g2.
d-- Bloody Beeb creating a bastardised version of the site we love.
What do you reckon?

Ooh, oh! What about the post?
p++++ I am Shazz or Greebo.
p+++ I am a regular or frequent contributor.
p++ I'm ready every Thursday to read it in detail and have contributed before now.
p+ I peruse it most weeks.
p I sometimes pop over and read the good bits.
p- I only read it if there's something I particularly want to see or I'm really bored.
p-- How pointless. There's much better online papers out there.

Hmm, lots of work for someone! I've added my code to my Personal Space, so I'd quite like to know if it's added to.

Oh, and how come you don't include the Thingites category on yours?
More codes ... ?
Mina Posted Oct 30, 2002
Because none of the answers fitted in any way at all. Not even vaguely. I thought I could leave out the bits that didn't work - was I wrong?

Bagpuss Posted Oct 30, 2002
You're probably right, but it should be considered a sliding scale, so you can choose a category even if you don't completely fit. Looking at it, though, I wonder if there should be an "I don't care" thing. Is that what you'd want?

Hi everyone!
Blimey - you spend two days away from h2g2 and your backlog explodes (sounds painful)
Thanks for the submissions everyone - I'm not going to update the code for a few weeks - Greebo's putting it in the Post etc.etc.
When version 1.1 is created, I'll post on this page letting all users know, so subscribe please.
1.1 will be on a new page, and this one will be marked obsolete in big letters.

Right, I've subscribed.
And thanks Lucinda, I added the !T
What would fit would be (sadly) 'I actually quite like work and therefore I refuse to call Monday Sodit but I think it's a great idea for other people. I've had jobs that I've hated in the past'.

Just because you suggest it doesn't mean I'm going to include it.
Next bridge hand's started, btw.

Bagpuss Posted Oct 30, 2002
Oh bridge. Right, I'll be there soon. Did you win the last hand?
By the way, would you object if I made my own version of this code - not as competition but just so's you could look and see which bits you liked. Seems easier than posting all suggestions here.
Oh, I hope others wouldn't object if I pinched their ideas as well.

Mina, if I were you, I might put something like T+(-). Okay, it doesn't show exactly what you want, but it's not too bad.
