A Conversation for The Great Sioux Nation and Mount Rushmore

The Great Sioux Nation and Mount Rushmore

Post 81

Rita

Here's one of my favorite Q&As:

Question: What were Custer's last words?

Answer: All of you are under arrest for breaking curfew.

Question: What did the indians reply?

Answer: Darn, why'd he cut his hair? We were hoping for a trophy and now all we got is a doilie.

Well okay, paulie, I won't press you. I thought we might work on a film script together later when you're not so frazzled. I was thinking about something along the lines of Dancing with Georges, Custer or Bush, it doesn't matter. &;D

hey Rita, I posted one in my "personal space" for you. I guess I'm a big chicken, I'm afraid people will start to take me less seriously if I post the joke here. It's a pretty funny joke though I think smiley - smiley

You should post it here too. Did the editor put in the asterixes for you?

It seems like something Shane would have done in a picture too, if she had had a cow already. The other stuff she probably already had lying around, so to speak. What do you think? &;D

no I put them in, to make sure it didn't get quarantined or anything. You know I bet that is just the type pic Lil would do. I bet there are poser cows out there somewhere, maybe we could do one in her honor? of course we wouldn't be able to post it here, and so everybody would miss the pure genius of it. Sort of sign language for people who don't know sign language smiley - winkeye

Maybe I'll give it a try if I can find a Poser cow. I think I can locate the other stuff pretty easy. She had a bunch of it on her hard drive. If I can keep from blushing, maybe I can get something that she would be proud of, even if I wouldn't be necessarily. &;D

Zarquon's Singing Fish!

Thanks, Rita for the clarification. I'm a Virgo, you know. We like to be correct about these things, and having read 'Bury my Heart at Wounded Knee', which I found heart-rending, I have a real interest.smiley - smiley

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.

If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.

Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!

Congratulations!

thanks everybody who helped me out with this, and you all helped tremendously. Maybe a sub editor can put in a bit about the other tribes DC. This is my first time at this so I'm not really sure how it works. It's all very exciting though, and gratifying, thank you all again smiley - smiley

I must say I found this entry and this discussion ver very informative. as an American Studies student, I do, from time to time, study different parts of American Politics and History, and last year we spent a lot of time looking at the colonisation and the effect it had on the native tribes.

I found the book "Red White and BLack" by gary B Nash to be a good introduction to the colonisation and the effect it had, although I think that dee Brown (writer of "Bury My Heart at Woiunded Knee" and "The Way to bright Star") writes the best books i've read on the matter.

I would just like to thank paulie for writing an article which has helped enlighten me more about the plights of some American Indians, and to everyone in this thread (especially Rita) who have shared their own knowledge about the subject.

I know this forum isn't really intended for discussions such as those which have gone on, but I found them enlightening anyway.

Zarquon's Singing Fish!

Congratulations, Paulie, well deserved smiley - bubbly. One of the most interesting threads for a while.

Thank you, Rita smiley - hug. I have difficult feelings for situations such as yours. Whilst 'my people' were guilty of the most appalling arrogance, cruelty, two-facedness and condescension, they were products of their time. My own ancestors were no doubt people who worked in the cotton mills in England at the time, or down the mines, where life was cheap.

However, despite the fact that people say that it's too late to put the clock back, I think there are things which could and should be done. I too have strong feelings on globalisation (all hail the great God 'Money'), the destruction of the natural habitats and the treating of the planet as a commodity. However, I digress ...

I guess it was just too obvious and that's why I missed it. thanks alji, I guess I need to make sure whoever is editing catches that rather large blunder. sorry about that.

Zarquon's Singing Fish!

It shouldn't be a problem, paulie.

When an article is recommended, the Scout also posts a link to the thread, so that the Sub-Editor can check through to see if there is anything important in it.

Many (but not all) Sub-Editors also check in with the author to let them know how the entry is going and to give a chance to make comments before it is ready for them to submit for final polishing (and blob, if it gets chosen as the Editor's Choice).

If you have a look from time to time in ComingUp, you should be able to see your entry and find out who is subbing it in any case.

without you, Lil, Zee, Charlie, even Pasqua and Buffy indirectly, I would never have had the information or the inclination to dicuss a matter like this, much less attempt to get something accepted in any sort of formal publication. okay so I don't know if this is a formal publication or not, but hey for me it might as well be Newsweek. I do tend to get my hopes too high sometimes, but I really feel like it's a ice breaker for discussing this stuff. Judging by the response there has been here, there are a lot of people out there who would like to make things different.

We both know there were those times when we just could not understand each other Rita. You were bitter, I was defensive, and the enterchange didn't seem to be very productive. I am so glad we worked through that, and I can understand a lot better now why you might be bitter at times. I just hope more people will keep on working on it when they run up against something that is hard to hear. So tell Zee for me, and tell him to tell Lil, and tell Charlie if the old bugger ever comes back around to check on us "ladies", yall gave me something that is really the most valuable thing you can get, knowledge. Of course it brings along all sorts of repsonsibilities, but it's worth it over all.

So now, what you say we plan a date and all meet at Mount Rushmore next summer or something? We could make us some signs "Return the Black Hills" or something like that. March around out front, make sure the news folks are about, maybe start a movement? Now before anybody says it won't do any good, just remember, you have to keep a positive attitude about these things. Besides I hear it's beautiful country, maybe we could learn to appreciate it in it's natural form somewhere along the way smiley - smiley
