Bob, it *should* be difficult to get votes. Or acclaim. I don't think voting is quite the right metaphor, because it's not the same kind of forced choice. It's the sort of thing where you hear a really great speech, and you shoot to your feet at the end of it and applaud. If a person reads an entry that's so great that it makes them want to shoot up to their feet and applaud, then our outlet for that is the acclaim system.

Your ideas are fine and expressed clearly and I look forward to supporting the idea, as I said to Icy due to the entry of the month contest I read entries I would have missed otherwise.
I am concerned about relying on votes from the communuty, that is my only worry

NB I did not read your reply I was busy weiting mine. I must say if it works that way I am fully in favour of the idea.

Five per *day* Yowsers. You are completely correct, I don't know how I managed to mis-remember that one. How times have changed, eh.
I think you are expressing yourself fine. I think our main differences stem from different expectations of volume of entries coming through. The larger the process the more unwieldly it becomes, so I can see how an additional filter would be useful. It would also allow people to feel part of a process with only a click of a button rather than having to much in the way of work.
I also have to remember that the bar for this is *very* high, so many nearly-worthy Entries will probably fall by the wayside anyway. The Showcase should be a goal but not an expected destination.
In Entry of the Month, winning didn't mean much bar a bit of prestige and a mention in the Post. We're talking about being plastered across the Front Page as advertising. Plus with the (undeservedly) few votes that Entry of the Month attracted it wasn't really a problem. Again; small scale is much easier to handle.
Now I'm going off on a tangent and not making myself clear. Sorry. My point was... uh...
Basically, you make fine points. And, in the end, distancing yourself from a Community is one sure fire way to make them distrust you. Let's make it open.
*I only use this particular Entry because it's the same number as my U number. It wasn't an important day or anything. It just has the bit of information I needed.

In terms of a high-level description, does this sound about right, Jordan? Please feel free to edit it if I haven't quite got the gist of something.

Vip, the only comment I have right now for that document is that I didn't think of the Showcase idea. That was Pinniped.

Hi all
I've been shockingly lax in giving my views / helping out h2g2c2, but I think this is a strong proposal.
My only concern is that given the low number of edited entries we have at the moment (and I'm sorry but I don't really see that increasing), any entries selected for the Showcase could potentially get weeks on the FP. That might make us look like we don't update very often or that our content isn't as good as it actually is. It would depend on how prominently it was displayed, I think.
Key: Complain about this post
