A Conversation for Talking Point: Scary Stories for Halloween

Hallowe'en is my birthday, so we've established a fair few traditions over the years. When I was very young, I used to think the sparklers and fireworks were for me!
We used to play loads of games, from ducking for apples to hanging an apple on a piece of string from the door frame and trying to pull out coins that had been stuck in it using only our teeth (hands behind backs, of course!) Dad always shoved pound coins in really far and it was always a gamble to try for them, or to go for the much more easily attainable 10ps!
Until a few years ago, pumpkins weren't all that readily available for lanterns and we still stick with our own tradition of making them from turnips. This year we found an easier way to hollow out the tough vegetables - an electric drill! You can imagine the madness, bit of turnip flying everywhere! We left them hanging from the frame of the porch and it looked great, particularly as we live in the countryside and it was really dark all around.
