A Conversation for Talking Point: Scary Stories for Halloween

I usually celebrate this day by honouring my ancestors and loved ones who have died, as for pagans this is the time when the 'veil between the worlds' is thinnest, and is therefore a time when the dead are closest to us.
For me this normally involves contemplating the nature of Death and rembering my lost ones in the time leading up to Halloween, then taking a long walk, thinking of and speaking to my lost loved ones, and then lighting a candle and some incense for them.
I'd love to go trick or treating, but I think I'm too old and not nearly cute enough to get away with that!

We do what most British do and follow the American lead in that we put up all sort of 'Spooky" things for our three year old and she answers the door to all the 'Trick or Treater's'.
The children on the estate enter into the spirit of this and dress up to tour the estate. We dare them to delve into a deep basket full of shredded paper and treats, suggesting that there are all sorts of horrors like 's slugs,
s, green goo, toads etc in it.
We also have a Bessom (witches) broom for the grass that is hung up with a 'Parking Ticket' on it.
We also have a carved Pumpkin or two with candles in. This year we found a scary cat face template which attracted many complements, even from teenagers - an accolade in any parent's book!

I would have liked to celebrate Samhain as 'Leopardskinfynn' did, in the pagan way by celebrating the dead with a small ceremony. However, as I am new to this, I did not. I did, though, remember my Nan who died earlier this year, and lit a candle for her.
My family did not do anything really for Hallowe'en, as we never have. We tend to ignore the trick-or-treaters! I know it sounds mean, but it's all we've ever done!
