A Conversation for Talking Point: Scary Stories for Halloween

Halloween

Halloween is one of those things that comes once a year a bit like birthdays or Christmas. In Europe I find that the 'trick or treating' does not take place so much. Indeed the Christian All Hallows Eve is often celebrated as people honour the dead.

Trick or treating is fun but you can often forget about it. This year travelling to England we completely forgot about the little children who would be knocking on the door and threatening us. The poor children were presented with, first oranges and then handfull's of pennies.

I guess it's the thought that counts smiley - winkeye

How many pennies did you give them? If it's just a few - shame on you! Buy some sweets next year! If it's a lot, then that's okay!

How do they celebrate Hallowe'en where you come from then? It's clear you don't come from England!

Well we were at my Grandad's and he had a pot of pennies that he used for that sort of thing. I do come from England but I just don't normally celebrate halloween and I'm a bit dopey.

I live in Luxembourg and they don't really celebrate it here either. Some Englsih or American people might organise parties for kids and organise a trick or treating route with friends they know and who are prepared.

Luxembourg is a bit strange in that aspect. In England or America the communities are much closer and most people know most people. In Luxembourg its different, it's quite difficult to explain.
