Ummm.... will there be a (revolving) chairman to cast the deciding vote/ballot when the committee is 'hung' (6 pro and 6 con) ?

Ah yes, good point, 12 was the first number that sprung to mind.. maybe 9 would be better, or 13, that's a prime number...

We have 9 member boards of trustees. We didn't choose this number, it is statutory. It seems to work fairly well most of the time. But even with 9, we sometimes have trouble reaching a consensus. Sometimes we have 4 or 5 suggestions for resolving an issue. Things get tabled a lot, which makes me crazy. A number greater than 9 would seem be even worse in our case. When the laws were drawn up for county library systems, which followed decades after municipal libraries, the number was reduced to 5. This is turning out to be too few, but it does make the decision making process move faster.
