Remember the Shannon! (and fishnet stockings)
Rod Hagen Started conversation Aug 30, 2002
People from the Apple discussion boards will know what I 'm talking about!
As Allan said:
"Mimi is a merchant navy stoker sailing out of Liverpool UK, with a delicate sensibility disguised by his brutish use of exclamation marks, and a fondness for fishnet stockings in hard-to-find sizes.
His silences are caused by being at sea, and the high costs of satellite links to the internet.
Hope this clears it up. "
Cheers
Rod

I personally suspect that Mimi obtained those fishnets in Marseille after munching on a Spaghetti Putanesca, but who knows?

"high costs of satellite links to the internet. "
$100/mo in CO (quoting William White)
I don't imagine it to be more than $1k off-shore

Yuk1 What's with this 'classic' skin - bit like OS 9 starting up when you least expect it.
Hi Rod have you been on holiday? Or was it the return of Allan, Donna, FW etc that brought you out of hiding?
You've really messed up Duo's thread! Even he's impressed Bet it's gone by this evening tho'
Hi FW - I see you made it over here at last! Donna's having trouble (this bit of the site was down this morning)
BTW - Isn't this more Mimi's style?
D*mn - why don't these links work properly?

Oh dear! I obviously mustn't swear around here
As soon as I posted that, I got a console.log window pop up with 'SystemUIServer.crash.log:
EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)....KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE' !!!
Yikes! Back to the Apple forums to find William

Ha! I thought I had won my bet, but not so. The topic has been archived, but is still accessible. Reached 50 posts - not bad!
It's interesting to look at the archived stuff from time to time. Ryan's 'Remember Mimi' topic is also there, with a couple of posts I hadn't seen.
I finally made it...

Just wanted to let everyone know it is Paul Reed's Birthday today, Aug. 30... (as well as his twin sister's).
I'm at work right now, so I've got to go do some.
I want some fishnet stockings too. Why should Mimi have all the fun?
donna
You still haven't answered...
Rod Hagen Posted Aug 30, 2002
You still haven't answered my last question Donna.
WHY was there no insult intended or implied? The Royal Navy, with all those whistles and bell bottomed trousers, are always eligible to be insulted! (It was the poor old merchant seamen I was worried about, floating around in the Atlantic in their stockings with so little understanding, waiting a couple of years for the Yanks to join in )
(starts fulminating about certain countries always being late for the wars that need to be fought and early for ones that don't)
Remember the Shannon and the Chesapeake I say!
Cheers
Rod
PS...
Rod Hagen Posted Aug 30, 2002
No fishnets for you until you prove that you can splice the mainbrace, let go the maintop gallants in a Force 9 and chew tobacco better than Mimi!
Cheers
Rod
ummmm....
_donnab_ Posted Aug 31, 2002
Rod,
Why there was no insult intended...
Men are from Mars... I'll never understand this "jousting" stuff completely, being from Venus...
It wasn't the Royal Navy I was worried about insulting.
Remember that the Royal Navy shot down several of their own men (during the battle of the Shannon and the Chesapeake) during the accidental raising of the US flag OVER the Union Jack...
I think they were all drinking rum and wearing fishnet stockings...
Donna
I qualify, except for...
_donnab_ Posted Aug 31, 2002
Rod,
I can't do the chewing tobacco. I prefer my tobacco smoked. Don't like that nasty spitting!
The rest I can handle like an old salt...
I've been a sailor for years. I raced Grace, O'Day Day Sailor #930, in many a regatta. She was a two-man boat, but I'd do it myself when my mate didn't show up - with her spinnaker line between my teeth and her tiller extender between my knees...
So, can I still have the fishnet stockings - without chewing the tobacco? Please?
Donna

Fogey, who, exactly are you?
I'm so lost here... it says that I'm subscribed to the topic, but where do I check my subscriptions? And what classic skin are you referring to? I see nothing here that even resembles OS 9.
just so everyone knows, I never go online in the morning (after I wake up, that is). chances are I'll miss a lot of stuff, but most things get read before I go to bed. I really didn't intend for that to rhyme.

Hi !
Well...
You may find this page A400500?skin=classic useful...
But I prefer A400500?skin=alabaster
See why classic is such an appropriate name? No? Oh well?
Who am I? For me to know and you to guess, FW!

fogey,
Excuse me, but haven't we met before? Your voice sounds hauntingly familiar...

thanks for the demo, but the classic thing still looks nothing like any Mac OS I've ever seen... the alabaster one is kinda neat & tidy-like. I'll never have a use for that. the marble blob thingy I see here is pretty spiffy. the way it flows defies logic of fluids, but it's cool anyway. btw, it didn't really help.
