meh, I can do without... if i have to remember that something is in the dock, i'll go crazy. i suppose it's better this way after all.
I'm the same way with the error messages. keep wondering what the h*ck i did to get a message like that. after scanning my wall of stickynotes, I usually find one with 4 "rm" variations and directions for each. stickynotes are amazingly helpful when you have them all in the same place...
I once had a set of harman-kardon soundsticks & 2 iSubs that ALWAYS gave me kernel panics... it was so annoying cause I'd have to boot with them unplugged, and wait until iTunes popped up to plug them in, then unplug them before I shut down. a nice klipsch THX (5.1) system has taken h-k's place. sounds better too! I love klipsch...
I'm still somewhat hesitant to network/notwerk my macs with my PCs. dave or sharity would be cool, but I guess I'm just too lazy to go out and get either (or pay for them, at least). not having my PCs and my macs on the same network is kinda cool... just adding to the mac-ish condescension that taunts my PCs (and server). it's great fun
Where am I?
_donnab_ Posted Sep 1, 2002
Ooops,
I thought I was somewhere else. Where AM I?
This was no help whatsoever:

I think it only applies to our home page space...

Replace 'same' by 'wrong' and that sounds like me! I have bits of paper all over the place - so I start a little 'notes' doc using Textedit (& include the date in the name) and leave it pushed almost off the edge of the desktop - then I can do multiple 'copy's before any pasting - sort of like multiple clipboards. Sounds organised, doesn't it? No, not really...
I couldn't work out which post you were replying to at first, but now I've worked out what these funny inverted trees are!
> I love klipsch.. Who? don't think they're in Europe...
>network/notwerk .... it's great fun... NOT! Have you seen what happened to me today? Give me a break ... and I haven't even started on the PC side of things yet

Oh btw FW, have you changed your mac.com homepage? Only I can't find the form-filling bit that you mentioned some time ago. I promised to comment and haven't yet...

Exact opposite here... I look incredibly disorganised, but I know exactly where everything is and almost never run into problems until I have to search for a single-page document. In that case, I'm toast!

They are quite strange, aren't they?

Yeh, I saw... I was being sarcastic about the "fun" part. I absolutely HATE trying to network PCs and Macs, even though it's what I do for a living. Even after being a sys admin/IS manager for a year, I still have trouble getting things to work at home. Painful thing the network is. one day, we will figure this thing out! good luck in the meantime.

I got rid of the menu cause it was being a pain in the bonbon and not remembering what I did to it. I also took down the page of pics from my birthday. there was never any forms on there ever. feel free to comment any time. I get bored in the wee hours of the morning when sleep is knocking on my door.

'posted 59 minutes ago' -- must be the wee small hours. I just got up 5 minutes ago!
Yes menus, of course! Sorry my brain wasn't working last night.
Hope your nicely tucked up by now! Sweet dreams!

wee small hours... well, it's 0052 right now. I'll probably be passing out within the next 15-20 min.
your brain wasn't working? i still can't figure out how to turn mine on let alone get it working. today i can understand why it wouldn't want to work... drinking contest with your brother who's been drinking 7 years more than you tend to result in a somewhat odd state of being. I just hope what I did tonight doesn't interfere with my attendance at tomorrows football game... the battle of alberta is on. edmonton eskimos playing the calgary flames (my home team) on calgary turf. oooooh i want calgary to win!!!
have a good day, Fonic.

FilteredWater Posted Sep 2, 2002
correction: i didn't intend to type "flames" as I was thinking hockey at the time... replace with "stampeders".
tip: never post after drinking contests.

Good ...morning?
Just thinking of you... I've still got my note up from posting to the Apple boards...
In the terminal window type
>sudo rm -f
with at least one space after '-f'. Drag the target folder .....
all the while thinking FW should be doing this
Right, who can we pretend to be today?

I woke up at 1141 this morning, got here around 1300. my average weekend schedule.
was i trying to delete something? i'm so lost... again.
watching the end of the first half of todays labour day classic double-header... the score at the end of the 4th quarter for the hamilton/toronto game is 22-14 with hamilton in the lead. the calgary-edmonton game should be starting in roughly 5 minutes. 34 seconds left.

Oh I am sorry! (Don't know what you're talking about, but if you're then I'm too!
Does 'labour day' explain why it's so quiet over on the Apple forums? I mean, is it a US thing as well as Canadian?
Still suffering from:
The address "ThisAddressDoesNotExist" does not exist!
But I have two machines simultaneously browsing the Internet
Now all I need is for you to explain how to get a second AppleID (already got another email id, my ISP gives me 12 ) so I can log into the discussions in my new identity

FilteredWater Posted Sep 3, 2002
tee hee hee, Michael, you're wonderful!
I was talking about football (non-UK, CFL/NFL kinda stuff with the pigskin).
labour day would explain the webly silence. it's a Canada/US thing.
are you referring to what you see in network browser when you're trying to connect to the other computer?
to get another ID, go to: https://signin.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/signin.woa/15/wo/5S7tvYDEtrp02nkv3Tj1mHGxYQy/0.12 and use your new (undesignated) email addy. to log in, go to https://signin.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/signin.woa/?locationurl=http://www.apple.com/support/
hope those links work.

Well at 28-20 even I could tell it wasn't soccer! Geez what a soccer match that would be!
No, the machine names are OK in the 'Goto', or Chooser in 8.1. It only shows up in nerdy Unix things like 'netstat' and so on. But I like to be tidy (read anal-retentive) so I need to get a DNS running, which means enabling BIND. OK so far, cos OS X is Unix, right, but what I do in 8.1 I haven't a clue! I've downloaded about 50 pages of documentation from various Linux sites - trouble is as soon as I try and read them, Zzzzz! Oh well it will have to wait for the weekend, since I'll be on the road later this week (and before you jump to conclusions, no I'm not a salesman!)
Thanks for the links - will try as soon as my new IDs are enabled ('bout 24 hours) But I mean to keep one ID on each machine, so not mix up IE prefs, hence the need to get both online

your soccer matches are funny... the ones i played in my first year of university (about 6 yrs ago) often ended up with scores in the 30s or 40s.
quite frankly, i have almost no idea how to do that sort of thing. when i did do it, we were using OS X server, and everything had a GUI, so i didn't have to use terminal except for things related to the non-OS X servers and the windoze machines. good luck with the documentation. i know how boring it is. i've read more than 24 manuals on various unix stuff just to get up to snuff at my old job and i don't remember a blasted thing. talk about using time wisely.
just so you know, i don't jump to conclusions... unless someone tells me to guess things, but then that's guessing, not jumping to conclusions.

Well guess what some poster in the Apple forums meant when he said
"the blue hair cutter bar'
I just had to Command-C that for future reference
No - I won't tell you tonight! I must go to bed!

FilteredWater Posted Sep 3, 2002
the blue hair cutter bar thingy was a reference to the barbershop poll thingy. i found it here: http://discussions.info.apple.com/[email protected]@.3bb9b931/0
what was it that you were going to tell me?
sweet dreams, Fonic.
(you'll have to copy & paste the URL, this thing doesn't like @s.)
