I've always thought it looked like an out of focus VW emblem.

Not only is that head-on VW microbus out-of-focus, it's about to roll over into a ditch. 
The one I really hate is 
The lines are too thin and not quite the right angle, so it looks like a really grumpy face with no eyes. It might help if it was redone in blue or green; anything but 'happy-face-yellow'.

Definitely not normal. Maybe there should be a rule that only faces can be face-coloured.
