A basic guide to handy Japanese phrases. Any suggestions for useful phrases or words?

Although there are several entries on Japanese language, none of them is in the Edited Guide and some of them are unfinished.

This looks like a good one, that could stand on its own two feet. I suggest you put it into Peer Review, where you are more likely to get the further suggestions you are asking for.

Go for it!

I'm not giving my name to a machine

How about:
"where's the bathroom?"
"what did you just say about me?" this one could get someone to stop talking about you if they think you know japanese.
"you have beautiful eyes" we all know what this one's for.

The layout is very convenient...well done FritzOnline.

How could I forget the bathroom! Thanks

As for the others, I'm working on a separate slang page, which I don't think will be fit for the Edited Guide. I'll keep your suggestions in mind.

I'm not sure why this has been put up for moderation. Is it because it contains foreign words?

I'm not sure at the minute - I'll try and find out and get back to you.

OK - the moderator couldn't read the Japanese and therefore hid the entry. In cases of foreign language entries they are normally referred to members of our h2g2 Community team who then judge whether or not any particular entry is acceptable (we can't run the risk of publishing a foreign language entry without checking the translation first - an entry of this sort *theoretically* may contain highly offensive or defamatory material). In this case, however, I personally can verify your Japanese translations myself (I speak a bit of Japanese) and so your ace entry should be going back up as soon as possible!

Holler if that's not the case. smiley - smiley

Hahahahahahaha! Excellent, excellent. smiley - biggrin

Incidently, 'hai douzo' can mean a lot of things but in this case it means 'There you go'.

And there you go! smiley - smiley

Domo domo.

I was getting a little impatient as I'm off to China for a while, and what with the recent crackdown on internet cafes, I don't think I'm going to be able to access h2g2 for a while.

By the way, I'm probably going to create a separate Japanese slang entry once I get back. Not crude or sexual, just the basic stuff, so hopefully it won't be moderated.

I really look forward to that - don't worry about the moderation. I'll check it - even if it does get moderated, it'll only be temporary. That actually reminds me, I've got this ace book - very formal - but it's a Guide to 'impolite' Japanese. Very funny. smiley - smiley

Have a great time in China. All the best.smiley - smiley
