"I didn't turn out to be a member of the Big Brother society."
You young'uns make me Laugh until I cry!
I remember when 1984 was in the future. 'Cause I was almost but not quite reading it in 1976.
If you wanna have some fun, take a look back at what it was like in Californistan during the Nixon years. Or go back and see what the state was doing to Sinclair Lewis and the Okies. Californiosity was the state where most of the Nisei were plucked up from and shippped to the retention camps during WahWahTwa.
The writing of 1984 was a reaction to the socialist silliness in GB before WahWahTwa and it's vision was later borne out in the Wah itself, with the so-called "free" societies becoming more fascist in their attempt to battle Fascism.
No, Big Brother is alive and well, and so is his grandson.

Oops. Me was wrong. Published in 1948, so less prescient than I had thought. More of a parody of recent past, then.
Oh, well, I don't think Orwell was comfortable being accused of being a prognosticator.

Written in 1948 - published in 1949 - I had the pleasure of studying George (or Eric if you prefer) for my 'A' level English waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back...
If you ever get the chance try reading his compilation 'Inside The Whale and Other Stories'.

Hadn't heard of it. Thanks. I'll look it up.
I have read "Animal Farm", which I thought tremendously wicked!

I've read Animal Farm as well, which I loved.
I don't believe in God, but I thank whatever there is to thank that I see past the propaganda and the lies and the cover-ups. Vote Democrat.
Pure Marxist communism does seem like a positive thing - it's Orwell who pointed out that it doesn't exactly work like that in the real world.

"Vote Democrat"
You might be surprised how many liars and coverer-uppers there are in the Democrats.
Duplicity is the American Way of Government.
Anyone who tells you any different is either lying or trying to sell you something or both.

Oh, I'm not being entirely serious. I don't trust anyone in government.
But I certainly trust Democrats more than I do Republicans, because I find them far less likely to take away my civil liberties. (Can anyone say 'Patriot Act'?)

Yes, well, remember that McCarthyism flourished during a Democrat's administration.
