Hmmm... first thing, how about putting something in the subject field of the entry so that people will have an idea what the entry is about - like 'Melvin Burgess'

yep! hehe just noticed that, thankyou. My PC started to crash whilst writing the article, so i copied it into notepad, saved it then rebooted. When i came back i just pasted it in, forgot to put the subject line back in, should be better now tho.
thanks

Hello
A nice start, but I can't help with the content I'm afraid.. I've read none of his work.
Why not start a thread at <./>askh2g2</.> asking people for their opinions on the books? There are lots more people there, and you're bound to get something helpful.

I agree, it's a good start.
I hope you manage to get past your 'writer's block' - see what you can do.

Author's last appearance on site: June 22. What's the process for moving things from here to the Flea Market?

Post to <./>Feedback-Editorial</.> or email the italics.

Right, I did that. Thanks Bels.
One other question, and I really should know this. How do you get named entries to parse into links here in the fora? There's some bit of code for that, but I forgot it.

It's:
<./>

but omitting the line breaks between the tags.
That should do it.

Yeah, I've been looking for stuff to do between subbing batches. I did one Flea Market rescue, and I was thinking about working on some updating scheme, but it looked like Writing Workshop needed some input, so I figured I'd just jump in.
They were talking a month ago about getting rid of WW; do you know if that discussion is still going on? After trawling through it a bit, it seems to me like an overgrown garden. All it needs is some serious weeding, and the actual plants in here will have a lot better shot at growing.

There has been slow but regular activity in the WW recently.
It doesn't really hold people's attention the way PR does, though.
interesting in itself...

Actually I think weeding is a separate issue. I don't think see how whether it's done or not would have much impact on the dynamic of the WW. What it needs, IMO, is more people to hang out here and comment on entries. So your input here, GTB, is very welcome.
I think that commenting here is very different from commenting in PR. Although PR does give help with writing, it is much more judgmental and is much more concerned with compliance issues. WW is more about helping with writing style, and giving people confidence (where justified) to go forward into PR if they wish. It is a very useful staging-post.
Personally I find commenting in the WW more difficult than PR. I think other people may as well, and I suspect that for that reason it's never going to be as busy as PR. It's more rarefied.
I don't mind that. It has value for many of us who make use of it, and those who don't like it may and should just ignore it. Live and let live, say I.

The WW

After dipping in, I think I like commenting here more than I do in PR. This is probably where I'll come when I'm not busy with subbing jobs in the future. (I just got a new batch, which I'm working on a bit now.) It's interesting, sorting through the stuff in here. Some things just need a nudge to get them into Peer Review, some need to be "weeded" and sent to Flea Market (or just sent away), and some are really here for the right reason, and with those it's possible to have a really good interaction with an author who's looking for meaningful writing advice.
Like you said Bels, it's not for everyone, but I'll be happy to contribute, when I can. I've even got an entry I'm writing, that I'm stalled out on, and I might bring it here, when I have a little less on my plate.
