I was thinking that about the lightsabres too! Maybe cos Anakin's gets cut in half towards the end of Episode ii he gets a new one in 3... didn't he get a new one during the battle scene in the arena?

I think Papatine manages to convince Anakin that the Republic doesn't funtion, after all, we heard his opinion that "a strong person must make the senators agree with each other". Anakin then attempts to convince Obi-wan, Obi-wan gets pissed of, chops up Ani, causing a figure like Darth Vader in SWVI. Obi then goes to Naboo, tells a very pregnant Padmé that he's chopped up lover boy, Padmé then becomes the "sad figure" that Leia remembers in SWVI. She gives birth to the twins, and Obi-wan hides Luke with his relations on Tatooine, and Padmé flees to Alderaan with Leia to hide with Bail Organa. She then dies when Leia is still young. In the meantime, Dooku has cloned himself several times, these clones, probably called Doookuu, wipe out most of the Jedi, except Obi, who retires to Tatooine, and Yoda, who hides on Dagoba.

One of the long-standing *rumours* (should point that out) is that Obi-wan and Anakin/Darth Sulky fight over a lave pit thingy, Anakin falls in and gets disfigured that way.... Who knows though. Lucas might surprise us, he has in the past!

If the Dark Side is strong enough, the Jedi cannot sense it and Palpatine is very strong in the Dark side. Allegedly.
I think Yoda has sussed him slightly though.
