I hate those at the top in the shabbily shaded boxes. Are we really going to be stuck with those? I so much like the blue and green thingies at the bottom of the editorial - they convey the idea of motion and are pretty. Sorry that's just my opinion.

I'm not too happy about the shading, either. However, I'm willing to give them a chance in the new design. 
If anybody reads this who has the knowledge and skills to design a Post banner like Emmily suggests I'd be happy to see your graphics.
