Hi Bel,
Couple of suggestions.
You could include a link to to the coding offered for the new The Post Logo, so that everyone who copies and pastes it on to their PS will also have a link back to , which would be handy for them and any visitors to their PS.
There's a big space in the middle at the top between the two logos. Maybe someone good with GuideML could create a banner, incorporating the new The Post logo with a description of what The Post is - h2g2's weekly newsletter (or similar). I don't think the words 'The Post' makes it obvious what the page actually is to newbies.
My take it or leave it

Don't worry, we'll do that once the new site is actually launched.
For now, I'd much more like to get some suggestions about the new logo.

I think the logo at the top should be done so it looks similar to other h2g2 pages with similar new logos like Askh2g2
So a big logo at the top right with a blurb on the left explaining where we are.
That way there is a reassuring sameness about things.
I know some people hate sameness but this is my opinion.

I agree with BrownFurby. I like sameness
The Guardian website uses a thin column to list its articles.

I think this type of layout could work, obviously without all the pictures.

Cheers, all.
The new version will look very similar to EVERY other website.
You won't really be able to distinguish them at first sight, the distinction will be completely gone - which is a pity.
Oh well, I guess it has to be.

Looking at the latest issue in beta now - I don't think it needs much change.
There are enlarged gaps but the text and arrangement looks fine. Though I would like a large Post logo at the top.
Just giving my thoughts again. Bel, you're doing a great job thank you

The width is not much less than we already have in brunel, it is less than classic and alabaster though.
So now they have fixed those evil semi colon things everywhere , the new beta page doesn't that different to the current brunel. From my Pc anyway.
It would be a happier world if the rest of the internet was available in a choice of classic goo or alabaster instead of h2g2 having to change but resistance is useless.

I am in brunel. Barlesque will be a lot narrower than brunel - I'd say about half as wide.

Do you think it depends on a person's own Pc settings then?
Layout Suggestions
aka Bel - A87832164 Posted Dec 3, 2010
I'm sure it depends on monitor size and resolution (mine is 1280x1024, which is the highest I can get on my 17" screen).

How curious.
I have 1024 * 768 on a 17inch screen because my priority is being able to read the letters and I want the lowest that doesn't make things fall over. The beta is wider than brunel on that.
I tried it on 1280 * 1024 and the beta is narrower than brunel on that.
It doesn't make sense but I have given up trying to make sense of things these days.

I've tried the lower ers, but it just makes everything huge and blurry.
I've chosen a large font to compensate any small font I may come across (Firefox). It it's still too small for my liking, I temporarily enlarge the whole site I happen to look at.
Key: Complain about this post
