Possibly you could stick this in somewhere as well:
http://edition.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/anderson.cooper.360/blog/2006/02/sensory-overload-leads-to-bad-buzz.html
the Guide ML would be:
Sensory Overload
if you can't find a place in the entry, it can go between the Guide & Body tags at the end of the article and it will just provide a link at the side of the entry
Sensory Overload
This entry is ripe for picking IMHO (I speak as a mother of a son who has AS) so I'll just wave to any passing Scouts.

Nice work
"They do not have time for the individual attention the Little Professor requires, nor do they often have the necessary intelligence to deal with the inquiring mind of the child."
I think it is a little unfair on members of the teaching profession to imply they are not intelligent enough to deal with a child - they may not have the training or interest or knowledge in a particular specialism but that doesn't mean they are often not intelligent.

'I think it is a little unfair on members of the teaching profession to imply they are not intelligent enough to deal with a child - they may not have the training or interest or knowledge in a particular specialism but that doesn't mean they are often not intelligent'.
Yes. Teachers are educated into various forms of Learning Difficulty during Initial Teacher Training.
Also, in my school at least, we have a file called 'Barriers to Learning' which includes such things as Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Discalculia, ADHD and (much to my chagrin) Left-Handedness . Since when has left-handedness been a barrier to learning . What about Buzz Aldrin (the first of four LH'ers out of 12 astronauts who actually walked on the Moon)Alexander the Great, Lewis Carroll,Bob Dylan, Benjamin Franklin, Leonardo da Vinci, Paul McCartney, Nelson and Napoleon, Rameses II, ...
Anyway, the point is that this file gives advice, in general terms, of how to get the best from such students. Obviously, we would also have to look at the individual, specific needs of such students and, as professionals, we share our experiences and knowledge, successes and failures.

being sinister isn't really a barrier to learning, but it does mean that, esp in primary school, you have to take into account thier needs. Ie differnt sissors etc,

Well, I always found that I could use 'right-handed tools' left handed without any problem. Most times I wasn't even aware that I should be experiencing any difficulty (Oi, I'm not sinister, just sinistral )

I agree with BigAl and would like to add Steve Jobs and Bill Gates to the list.

Yes, with all these left-handed high achievers, IMO being right handed is a barrier to learning. (I've a mind to annotate our B.t.L. file to that effect

My point, Kelli and Al, is that the Little Professor might, and often is, more intelligent than the instructor, in an IQ sense, if you believe in such things.
But I'll change the sentence to read "training" rather than "intelligence".

I'll deal with the link issue tomorrow.
I don't think the CNN blog link will do, as I'm not sure how "permanent" it is or how accessible it is.

Good luck.
Yeah, that link doesn't work well for us because it only links to the CNN site.

Re: Sinistral & teaching, as a teacher i found the practical thing to do was sit two left-handers next to each other 'cos writing is incredibly difficult if you have bumping elbows to contend with & obviously might lead to the two kids falling out simply through both being unable to do their work.
If no other left hander in class, they get their own desk for writing tasks, nobody ever seemed to feel this was a problem once you explained the practicalities. 5 year olds accept that people are all different without it being an issue.
Brilliant Guide Entry, please keep me informed when it hits Front Page!

My brother is left-handed, as is my daughter.
I have a vague memory of having injured my left hand when I was about five... and having trouble manipulating a spoon that evening...
making me guess that I might have been left-handed once upon a time... or tended toward it.

I've often found it to be very annoying if you're sitting next to someone who's right-handed and keep bumping elbows. Of course, now that we're in high school we get those individual mini desks that are attached to the chair - which are horribly inconvenient because, as they're designed for right-handers, your arm keeps falling off.
Anyway, back to Peer Review...

'Of course, now that we're in high school we get those individual mini desks that are attached to the chair'
Aren't they designed so that you can swap the desk top to the other side?
Despite this sort of practical difficulty, I still disagree that sinistrality is a 'barrier yo learning'.
It is the infra-structure that is the barrier, not the individual to him/her self.

Hi, Tonsil. You've got most of the changes I suggested by you missed a few. There are still a few small things needing to be sorted out:
General Improvements:
Add link to the Edited Entry A592148 at the first mention of Asperger's Syndrome.
House Style:
Use 'single quotes' instead of "double quotes".
British Spellings:
color --> colour
behavior --> behaviour
Typos:
Obsessive Complusive Disorder --> Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Aspergers Syndrome --> Asperger's Syndrome
Aspergers has also been called --> Asperger's has also been called
(When you are talking about the syndrome, it is Asperger's with an apostrophe. When you are talking about the people, they are Aspergers without an apostrophe).
Aspie's satirical term --> Aspies' satirical term
