"Though I think you need to put more emphasis on there being a scale, and where the extremes lie"
That would involve dealing with the other channels on the Autistic radio dial, most of which I have no experience with.
Besides, some supposedly Aspergers people are so minor in their affectations that only an MRI can suggest that they are Autistic.
The classic Kanner's autistics are kinda obvious and your average person wouldn't encounter one without a visit to the appropriate family or institution.
The Little Professor aspect of Aspergers is particularly irritating to the viewer and the performer alike because society keeps asking the "Physician, heal thyself" question: "If you're so smart, then why don't you get with the program", and the Little Professors actually come to wonder what's wrong with them that they can't conform enough to pass.
The borderline nature of this particular flavor of Aspergers autism is what makes it so important, because the depression and anxiety that comes from worrying about doing things wrong and being incapable of communicating the inability to communicate leads to a viscous cycle that repeats itself with every authority figure and would-be peer that they encounter.
Jokers often tell me that it's okay to talk to yourself as long as you don't answer. Sometimes that's the only way answers come, through verbalization of a problem. If no one else is willing to listen, then any answer is better than none, even if it comes from yourself.

I think you should change very little of this entry, tonsil. Just enough to get it into house style. I can point out all the spelling mistakes etc if you like, but I don't want to start doing it until the entry is more or less complete.

Okay, so what's missing?
And can't the subed mess with the spleling?

I don't think there is anything missing. But other people may have other opinions and it has to sit here for a week, during which time you may change your mind about bits of it. So I'll try and have a look at it later in the week.

Says it all. This sort of stuff is SO BLOODY difficult for an Aspie person to do; it is like sweating blood. The fact we are being given an insight into the reality is a huge gift.
Sod it, i will sort the spellings if you like.
"Medic" not "medick" for starters; actually, it's the mediaeval spelling.
zdt*sorry; it's my hobbyhorse*

"Vicious" cycle = accepted usage, but actually "viscous" ie "sticky, thick, inpenetrable" is actually often more appropriate & a damned good pun.
(Excuse me; maybe i am borderline Aspie too, certainly i know someone who is & he would understand this, despite not squeaking English as his first language)

I know I mispleled "mimic" but "medic"?
Where?
And if a pun is spleled correctly, then it were probably retentional.

Do you know about the CTRL+F function? I find it a priceless boon
I was thinking about this last night and my son was chuntering about Mark and his Elvis obsession. Mark is the bus driver who takes my son to school. He loves Elvis and plays a cd of him all the way to school.
My son only has to hear a snippet of an Elvis song - and it's like a trigger (something which has gotten considerably less over the years - it used to be a ringing phone) - so as well as *liking* obsessions (currently Pokemon cards) there's also *disliking* obsessions.
Poor kid.
Last week's TV mag had the whole Presley family on the front cover. I had to tear it off and throw it away, or he wouldn't touch the magazine.
In his words: "Why do people still like Elvis when he's dead?"
(I play my Elvis cd's while he's at school)

My dislikes have become more practical over the years, but no less unpopular.
Oddly, my likes seem shared more and more by people my age, in some form or fashion.
I dislike loud shoes of any kind. I dislike house slippers in public on people who are not in wheel chairs or otherwise impaired.
I dislike flip-flops or other backless footware in public.
I think going bearfoot is preferable to wearing crap.
I dislike people who use slang abbreviations to strangers. Keep it among friends.
I dislike loud trucks and people who think with their horns.
I dislike people who wear clothing that displays graphics they don't have any personal attachment to. "It's popular!"
"Why?"
"I dunno, it just is."
I have particular songs and artists that I hate and many that I consider just plain unmusical.
I'm not a big fan of Elvis.
I watched the Grammies last night and didn't see a whole hell of lot that I could stand, which is weird because those people were on there because of the votes of other people in the industry...
I also thought the clothes sucked.

Tonsil, this has been in Peer Review long enough, now, for me to consider doing a full proof-read on it. The list of changes is quite long, but it shouldn't take you too long to do, particularly if you use the Find in Page feature as you go along (Ctrl-F in Internet Explorer). Since the entry has been well received, I'm sure it won't be long before it is picked, once you have fixed up the typos etc.
General Improvements:
Add link to the Edited Entry A592148 at the first mention of Asperger's Syndrome.
OCD or ADD -- can you please provide footnotes to explain these terms.
QUANGO social service systems -- I'm afraid I don't know what this means or why it is in capital letters.
House Style:
Use 'single quotes' instead of "double quotes".
Remove all spaces before
Remove full stops from the ends of headers.
Kanner's 4autism -- the space should be after and not before .
who worked in the forties --> who worked in the 1940s
British Spellings - please use British rather than American spelling:
color --> colour
behavior --> behaviour
humoring the lecturer --> humouring the lecturer
in any endeavor --> in any endeavour
living from check to check --> living from cheque to cheque (I think - if you mean paycheque)
Typos:
Aspergers Syndrome --> Asperger's Syndrome
mimicks --> mimics
complusive --> compulsive
Some Little Professor's fascinations --> Some Little Professors' fascinations
be contrued as a sign --> be construed as a sign
have shut off valves --> have shut-off valves
it's particular requirements --> its particular requirements
those who speciality is --> those whose speciality is
they come a across a word --> they come across a word
Aspergers has also been called --> Asperger's has also been called
a specialization of it's own --> a specialization of its own
disfunctional --> dysfunctional
someone who is unware --> someone who is unaware
nature taking it's course --> nature taking its course
a niche to excell in --> a niche to excel in
embarassing --> embarrassing
Aspies satirical term --> Aspies' satirical term
