Welcome on board, spawn of grinch. smiley - sadfacesmiley - grrsmiley - hug That's an excellent name, if I may say so. There's no worse time than Christmas for compulsory cheeriness, and I always thought the Grinch had the right attitude.

I was fascinated to see that you come from a place called Bradford. So do I - only my home city is Bradford, West Yorkshire, UK! I wrote a Guide Entry about the place, which is here: A617401 . What's *your* Bradford like?

My Bradford is in Ontario (Canada).

It is a small town, but it's growingsmiley - sadface

I like it because it's fairly clean and there are still lots of treessmiley - winkeye

Some of the people get on my nerves though, and there isn't too much to do! I have lived there for about six or seven years now, and it's a million times better than my old neighbourhood!!!

Can I have a P U D D I N G badege too, please?

I don't even claim to be pessimistic; merely bloody minded - and unwilling to share it with just anyone.

Oh.. and I can safely say where *I* live is remarkable inasmuch as it makes Eastbourne look racey.

Infact, I'll go as far as to say I live in Gods *new* waiting roomsmiley - sadface

I've lost all my links, favorites, , etc. I had to reformat my hard drive yesterday. smiley - grr

I wrote a post about what lead up to it in my space, because it was too long to put here. I would do a link, but I forgot how. smiley - erm

smiley - bleep OS errors!

Now I have almost 700 messages in my e-mail, and I have to re-install ALL of my software again! smiley - wah

Will it actually make you feel better?

Consider a ton load sent if it really does.....

I must admit to feeling unutterably smug - I got Broardband instaled today - and so far it hasn't banjaxed the PC even a little bit

Thanks, smiley - choc helps EVERYTHING.

Don't get too smug, I've had broadband for years. From 2 different cable providers. Suddenly my OS wouldn't connect properly to the internet. Something about a "runtime error".smiley - sadface

I had to reformat 3 times, once "safely", hoping I wouldn't lose everything. Then again a full reformat, which wiped everything. Then when I started reinstalling my hardware I discovered that I had done everything wrong and had to do it all over again. I did have a backup on my files, but that didn't save my internet "favorites".smiley - erm

Bat's dos.smiley - sadface

And there was I hoping that once I'd gotten Broardband I'd never have to reformat or reboot or do anything complicated or technical ever again.

Consider any trace of incipient smugness gone.

I've had this PC ...3 and a bit years, and I've gotten to the stage where I can reformat in my sleep (generally nightmares) - damned thing is always crashing.

Dunno why - guess I'm just lucky.

I actually use prosasic notebook and pen to record the passwords and favourite websites addresses rather than trust them to technology.

Can't always FIND said pen and notebook, granted - but if its in real live black and white then there's always a vague hope I can unearth it eventually.

I amn't sure, if, as a member of PUDDING I'm actually allowe to say "Pleased to meet you" but bugger it, I'm going to anyway.

I mean, whats the worst that can happen? Getting barred from being over socialiable, I guess.

Oh... and if you reckon chocolate makes things feel better, then go for it!

Personally I find banging my head against a brick wall very theraputic;

especially when I stop doing it.

Oh yes - forgive the ignorance( - I too am a techno duffer - )but whats an OS? Is it simliar to an IPS (Internet Provider Service) only sort of the transatlantic equivalent?

OS = operaating system, e.g windoze

don't worry, Evadne Cake, I have had to reformat and install so many times I now do it as a hobby, repairing other peoples stuff ups, it has enabled me to completely rebuild my comp for almost free, still I have to grumble at how many people can't do the simplest of maintainencesmiley - erm

smiley - erm I did, Ormondroyd, and I managed to get a fine load of gibberish/ML, hence my custom made reference to PUDDING on my PS.

I'll have another go a bit later on, once I've finished ranting to myself about my general incompetence.

I regret to say I'm one of those awful people who bobbyjoe despise... totally technically incompetent.

I can do complicated things like re setting up a PC (mainly because after the 10th time, even *I* can remember what to do) but if it comes to anything complicated like up or downloading I'm lost.

And it makes me reallysmiley - steam that I can't do stuff like that

Bring back pen, paper and barter I say

Is your Personal Space in plain text, Evadne? I'm afraid that the badge (like all other h2g2 graphics) only works in GuideML, which might explain the problem you've had. smiley - erm
