As suggested in the peer review, I have moved the entry to Writing Workshop to await the election results, brush up the English and add some more background stuff. Help is always appreciated!

I have heard Dutch people comparing this assasination with the murder of Olof Palme rather then the September 11th...

I did some looking up on Olof Palme on Google and I agree with you that the comparison with that man is more appropriate. However bearing in mind that September 11 is still in recent memory, comparison is readily made with that event, not because of the similarity of the event, but because of the shock it gave.
Personally I experienced the assassination of Pim Fortuyn (though I was no fan of him and would certainly not have voted for him) as a greater shock than September 11 because this event was so close by.

Well, I'm a Swede, and I know that when Olof Palme was murdered, it was a great shock to everyone in Sweden - most of us can still remember what we were doing when we heard the news...
...I had been working late, so I slept late, and then my mother called and woke me up, saying 'Olof Palme has been shot to death'...
...I just couldn't take it in, I thought it was some stupid joke, I didn't believe her - and then she said 'turn on the radio' - only news and smooth classical music...
It was so unreal - you don't go around shooting politicians in Sweden! It felt as is something died inside of us that day - innocence, or maybe gullibility, or trust... I don't know, but it completely changed the way you see things...

Titania, I think that September the 11th is probably more meaningful to h2g2's global audience than Olof Palme is - I hate to sound so ignorant but I'd never heard of him before I read your postings on this thread.
I think this is a good entry Don't worry too much about spelling mistakes... speaking as a subeditor, I'm always happy to correct entries when I receive them.
