The first 5 series of this sitcom were brilliant and the final New Year/Christmas episode that followed was a perfect ending to the show.
What then followed was a travesty: cashing in on the show's success by trying to just carry on. The scripts were poor and it was frankly, embarrassing to watch series 6 and 7.
When will the BBC see the light and release a DVD (or even video) versions of the first 5 series? This show was very popular in its time and I would have thought it would sell well.
BBC- PLEASE TAKE NOTE AND RELEASE SOME DVDS OR THIS SHOW!!!!!

Indeed I agree this is one of the very best sitcoms. I was a teenager at the time of the first broadcasts and have very fond memories and still laugh now whenI think of the show.
I cannot understand why the BBC does not get it act together and put these shows on DVD. I am even more surpirsed that they have not repeated the show in the daytimme as they do other shows such as 'the good life' and 'keeping up appearances'. Infact I have never heard about the show since the last episode. Its almost as if the BBC wantto sink it without trace!!
SO BBC PUT THE BRITTAS EMPIRE ON DVD.
and yes the last two series were increasingly surreal!
